Mendelssohn on Mull Festival 2012

Otherwise known as Mullfest, the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival 2012 brings together international musicians and Mull islanders in a week long celebration of classical music. In recognition of Mendelssohn’s famous visit to the island in 1829 and his classic Hebridean Overture which was inspired by his visit to Fingal’s Cave on the Isle of Staffa, young musicians come from all over the world to perform a selection of classical music under the guidance of experienced, world-class musicians and conductors as well as get a taste of the life of a professional musician.

Visitors can attend a wide variety of concerts at locations such as Duart Castle, Glengorm Castle, Iona Abbey, and St. John’s Cathedral in Oban, and this year, there will be even more playing of Mendelssohn’s music by popular demand culminating with the Hebridean Overture on the last night.
The Festival will also include works by Mozart and Brahms and there will also be recitals of works by Mozart, Schoenberg and Hayden.

The Festival takes place between 1st-7th July and entrance to every concert is free, excluding Iona Abbey visitor charges. For more details visit the Mendelssohn on Mull website.
